Deep of Night Rank Update – New Features & Balance
Platforms: PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S / Steam
New features
- You can now voluntarily drop your Deep of Night rank by one depth level.
- When dropping a level, your rank is placed at the midpoint of the lower depth.
- Rank demotion protection added for depth levels 3–5:
- Depth 3: protection lasts for 1 defeat.
- Depth 4 and 5: protection lasts for 2 defeats.
- Protection remains active if you regain these depths after a demotion.
- If a depth-1 player joins an expedition with depth-2+ opponents, that depth-1 player will not lose points on defeat.
- Updated expedition icon for players who reach the maximum depth-5 rating; players who already had max rating before this patch will also receive the new icon.
Combat and weapon balance
- Increased attack power and stagger damage for dash and strong attacks for most weapon classes.
- Increased stagger damage for dual-wielding jump attacks with thrusting swords.
- Decreased stagger damage for dual-wielding jump attacks with curved greatswords and heavy thrusting swords.
- Boosted the potency of the passive “improved skill attack power (+1, +2).”
- Adjusted several depth relic effects:
- Increased blood loss from the Wylder depth relic.
- Extended duration of the Raider relic that reduces enemy attack power when hit by a character skill.
- Reduced poison applied by the Ironeye relic; damage from the skill now scales with the enemy’s remaining HP.
- Rebalanced the Revenant effect that increases maximum FP on ability activation.
Relics, passives, and special effects
- Relic/passive effects that trigger “taking damage causes xxx buildup” and “taking damage boosts damage negation” will no longer activate when the player is guarding.
- The Revenant relic that expends the user’s HP to fully heal nearby allies now also affects allies rescued from near-death.
- The flask special “gradual restoration by flask” now provides a small immediate heal on use in addition to the gradual restoration.
- Guard-counter holy burst effects were changed so the explosion no longer ends an enemy’s staggered state.
- Note: this fix was reapplied due to an incorrect implementation in patch 1.02.2.
Enemy and encounter adjustments
- Reduced HP for night-boss variants: Ancient Dragon, Duke’s Dear Freja, Tibia Mariner, and Great Wyrm.
- Valiant Gargoyle: lowered HP and now easier to stagger.
- Fallingstar Beast and Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast: lower resistance to poison, rot, and blood loss.
- Maris, Fathom of Night: reduced HP and attack power during an Everdark Sovereign “Augur” expedition in Deep of Night mode.
Bug fixes and stability improvements
- Fixed Siluria’s Woe: the follow-up wind vortex now properly hits enemies after the weapon part attack.
- Fixed Crimsonwhorl Bubbletear so its effect does not incorrectly reactivate after expiring.
- Fixed an issue where the “flask also heals allies” interaction failed when the player had the “gradual restoration by flask” special effect.
- Fixed FP recovery bugs when using the flask with the “unifying fate” special effect.
- Corrected a bug where the “sleep produces a mist of sleep” passive could generate mist continuously.
- Fixed an issue where the “slowly restore HP for self and nearby allies when HP is low” relic effect also affected Maris when it caused the player to fall asleep.
- Fixed several encounter-specific issues:
- Certain Gladius, Beast of Night attacks not registering against the player during the Tricephalos fight.
- Summoned sinners by Libra, Creature of Night sometimes not rendering during the Equilibrious Beast fight.
- Near-death gauge appearing pre-filled in the final Nightlord battle.
- Defeating Night Assassin dropping latent power that could add an unintended skill to Wylder’s Greatsword.
- Fixes in menus and UI:
- Prevented deep relics equipped by allied Nightfarers from being sold in the Relic Rites menu.
- Corrected the icon shown in the log for pinned enemies in Evergaols D so deep-of-night variants display properly.
- Fixed incorrect color indicators for increases/decreases caused by detrimental passives.
- Restored missing unique armaments in Sorcerer’s Rise Untold Power.
- Corrected the number of scarab variants in Shifting Earth: Noklateo, The Shrouded City.
- Fixed missing Grace markers on the map in Shifting Earth: Rotted Woods when map data was incomplete.
- Fixed an issue where skill attacks enhanced by the Raider depth relic would fail to cause enemy flinch.
- Added a sound effect for the “attacks impaired on occasion” passive when it triggers.
- Fixed effect-timer reset bugs for “guarding ups sorceries & incantations” and “shielding creates holy ground.”
Deep of Night ranking issue (known issue and temporary fix)
- We discovered two problems affecting Deep of Night ranking calculations:
1) Changes to rankings were not always applied correctly after an expedition ends.
2) Ranking changes from one expedition could be improperly applied together with changes from a subsequent expedition.
- A provisional fix for these issues has been implemented in patch 1.02.3. Further investigation and a more complete resolution are planned for a future update.
Version and update notes
- App version: 1.02.3
- Regulation version: 1.02.3
- On PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, regulation files are downloaded when you log in to the server.
- If the regulation version shown at the lower-right of the title screen is not 1.02.3, please log in and download the latest regulation before playing.
- Online play requires this update. After downloading, restart the game to apply the patch.
We will continue releasing updates to improve balance and address remaining issues so you can enjoy Elden Ring Nightreign.
